A favorite among the many folding knives on the market today, the CJRB Cutlery powder steel black folder is one sharp blade right out of the box. Made from AR-RPM9 powder steel, it has a cleaver-style blade that’s perfect for both big and small tasks.
As if that’s not enough…
It also has a wide cutting area so I was actually able to use it in larger cutting tasks such as cutting some wood and skinning some games.
In addition to that, much thought came to the thickness of the blade. At 0.13 inches, it’s not too thin that it’s flimsy and yet, not too thick enough to get stuck in a material like wood. It’s just right and it glided smoothly and easily down to whatever I was slicing.
In case you’re wondering…
I did take it out for some bushcrafting and I was able to successfully skin, clean, and cut just about anything with this guy.
And if you’re thinking it’s not up for some delicate tasks, think again because, with its squared tip, it’s made to do not only some rough cutting but also delicate ones such as carving or the like and with great control at that!
Now, going to the handle…
It’s an attractive reflective black handle that certainly looks nice at first glance. The design helped me to find it when I had to look for it in the dark.
Made from carbon fiber, it’s very glassy, which can be a make or break, depending on your preference and on your hold.
Some people prefer a smoother handle, and some, like me, love some texture, and this one lacks some texture to the handle. So if you’re holding it with wet hands, you may want to be extra careful here.
But then…
It’s honestly a small price to pay what with the ease it gave me when I was trying to survive in that wet and gloomy wild.
Moreover, it’s outfitted with a ceramic ball bearing pivot system and a ceramic detent that makes its deployment quick and seamless.
I don’t know about you but I just like to flick it open in half a second from time to time so I’d feel like a badass villain.
Upon closing the knife, I actually felt the tight locking so I was able to rest assured that it won’t easily open in my pocket or bag.
And speaking of assurance…
I also like that it has this black steel clip that you can transfer to the other side depending on your preference. It’s flush with the edge of the handle so it’s very discreet with no chance of ever catching something and causing an accident.
Oh and it also has a lanyard hole if you prefer to have it in a strap.
It got me through for months and is still sharp to this day but I’ve also discovered that it’s not very hard to sharp when I need to.
Overall, it’s a straightforward blade that made life much easier for us just like how a good one should, making it the Editor’s Choice and one of the best pocket knives in my collection.

This foldable knife has a built-in flashlight which came in very handy and helped me in more situations than I’ve ever expected. I mean, imagine not having to struggle in trying to hold your knife while doing a task and maintaining a good position for your light.
I was able to do more things and actually rest much earlier than usual thanks to that feature.
But that’s not all.
It also comes with a belt or rope cutter which definitely is more than welcome when you’re in the middle of the wild (or just basically stuck somewhere) and you only have a knife for a tool. I was able to use it for building tents many times.
The blade was made from 7Cr17 stainless steel so it’s non-corrosive and rust-proof which is great because you can use it through rain and storm and in rivers without any guilt.
As for the knife handle…
It’s made from glass fiber and let me tell you, it’s got lots of textures in there and I was so itching to use it when I first got it.
There are different patterns and textures on the handle which is both aesthetically and practically very nice.
Aesthetically, the design makes it look so cool and badass, and practically speaking, it also helps with the user’s grip. Wet or not, you can be confident that it won’t slip all too easily from your hold.
It’s also ergonomically shaped with a slight curve so I felt more comfortable and secured upon using it.
You might notice there’s a little compass on the handle. It’s fake and just there for the design.
But it doesn’t end there.
It also features a built-in liner lock that will lock the blade once it’s open so you won’t accidentally cut yourself just because it buckled when you’re cutting hard objects that need more force.
To close the blade back, you’ll need to press the liner lock first.
Wow.
Now, on to the performance.
The stainless steel blade is described as having a serrated edge but in reality, it also has a straight edge which was put to test when I attempted to cut wood the size of my arm.
Let me just say that it’s actually successful. With more than a few but quick hits, I was able to cut this branch without breaking a sweat.

The handle is molded with Bi-Directional texturing for slip-free traction. The scaling is deep so I was able to use it safely even with wet or even oily hands.
And it doesn’t end there.
It also has a reversible clip but not the typical one because this pocket clip is a four-way clip, meaning: you can install the clip tip-up, down, tip-left, or right for ultimate comfort.
Going back to the blade, the skeletonized steel liners lend more strength and durability to the blade’s handle without adding more weight.

The Cold Steel Finn Wolf folding knife isn’t badass in name only. As a matter of fact, this is one of the most favorite lock knives among hunters and bushcrafters.
Wonder why?
First off, it’s one of the very few knives in my collection (and most collections, more like) that has a Scandinavian grind.
It’s that short and flat, usually convex, grind on a particular knife blade where the edge bevel is also the primary grind.
What does it mean to you?
The Scandinavian grind gives the blade much better edge retention so it doesn’t easily dull even after quite a long time of use.
Moreover, it’s also very easy to sharpen because the grind can act as a guide for the knife.
As if it’ll need any more sharpening!
But the thing that you might want to look out for is that the 3 mm blade is made even thinner because of this grind. That makes it great for cleanly slicing meat, fruits, and vegetables but susceptible to chipping if used on very hand surfaces.
Do know, though…
That it didn’t chip when I used it several times in wood, but I prefer to be extra careful here.
Another great thing about this baby is the strong tri-ad lock. And when I say strong, I really mean it.
You have to press the liner first to be able to slowly close your knife, preventing any chances of cutting your finger with the suddenly falling blade.
But here’s the trade-off…
This means that you really have to take your time opening and closing it so it’s not the ideal folders knife for self-defense.
On the other hand, I’ve had it for more than a year now and I only had to sharpen it very recently and yes, it took that long before that need arose.
It’s also very useful for quick fixes like fruit slicing, fish skinning, and cleaning, or just opening packages.
The handle is alright, though I wish it’s much beefier but it’s solid and still in one piece after much use and abuse.
And the best thing about it?

Though lightweight…
The handle is reinforced with some rubber for better anti-slip quality which I like but then, the trade-off is it’s not going to look very seamless in your pocket as it could bulge a bit. It may or may not be a good thing but personally, I didn’t mind.
It has a lanyard hole, though small, so that’s for you who likes to hand the folder in a strap of the like.
As for the blade?
Made from stainless steel, it’s very evident at first glance that it was given a very excellent heat treatment so it appears very sturdy, solid, and strong.
And it also proved to work that way too. I used it in chopping woods without reserve, as well as cutting branches and even for bigger games and it’s still good as new and not the smallest bit dull.
It’s also well-loved for the locking mechanism.
The locking liner is thick and you may even find it a bit stiff but it only shows that you’re in good hands as the knife won’t ever close in on your finger without warning.
That being said, it’s not a knife for quick self-defense but it’s seriously useful and helpful in almost all chores in the wild.
